Artemis 2 successfully launched four astronauts atop the SLS rocket from the Kennedy Space Center on April 1, 2026, and sent the Orion spacecraft on a 10-day loop around the Moon. After circling Earth to verify systems, the spacecraft executed a trans-lunar injection to coast toward the lunar far side. Using a free-return trajectory, the crew slingshotted around the Moon—venturing further into space than any humans in history—before safely splashing down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego on April 10, 2026.
