The Constance in Rough Seas

This is an original oil painting on a 36x48 inch gallery wrapped canvas, varnished. 

My family comes from a long line of fishermen and crabbers in Newfoundland, and although I live in Florida and I’m definitely not in the fishing industry, I am proud of my family history. Quite a few of my artworks depict fishing on the high seas. In a way, this way, I contribute a small piece to my family’s story.

Here, the crab boat “Constance” shows the grit and determination of fishermen who brave Mother Ocean to stay on the catch and risk their lives to provide for their families. The waves are high and the skies dark as an ominous sign that even more foul weather is on the way. The crew remains undeterred, and while deeply respecting the power of the sea, they challenge Mother Nature to allow for a bit of mercy, while they make their livelihoods.
